More often than not, when I tell someone that I am a Chiropractor, they immediately associate my profession with neck pain, back pain or headaches. They usually say, “I used to go to a chiropractor when I threw my back out,” but what they do not realize is that chiropractic is more about health, vitality and longevity than it is about aches and pains. A chiropractor is a health care profession that provides significantly more than just a solution for pain. Chiropractic is more closely related to a lifestyle that involves all aspects of wellness including exercise, nutrition, personal development, stress relief, etc.
As a Chiropractor, I define chiropractic as the discovery and removal of vertebral subluxations, which is interference in your nervous system. It is important to recognize that our nerve system is the master controller of our entire body and it directly correlates to our ability to function and exist. Any interference in this system limits our ability to perform or function as we were designed to.
These “subluxations” comes from stress, good stress and bad stress, everyone has it and everyone deals with it differently. It is the direct result of the things we do in our life every single day. These stresses are cumulative, meaning they add up day after day. Lifestyle stresses, both positive and negative, can result in nerve interference causing dis-ease, ill health and improper function.
Here is an example many of us can relate to; during the holiday season, many people tend to consume a substantial amount of less than optimal food and alcohol as well as spend more time with family (which some would consider stressful). What we have seen, is that around the holiday season, people typically get SICK, which happens to be caused by the stress induced subluxations as a result of consuming the food, alcohol, and lifestyle stresses. Even if they are labeled as a positive experience, our body is extremely sensitive to these types of external factors. The resulting stress causes subluxations in our nerve system. This is why chiropractic care needs to be an essential component of your lifestyle so that you can be as healthy as possible.
